Riding the Roller Coaster

The truth is, we all ride the emotional roller coaster. And we get to choose how we experience that ride.

Today, I’ve been excited about upcoming opportunities and possibilities, happy to see a friend I haven’t seen in about a year, glad to hear about the progress of a coaching client, frustrated with website and facebook nuances that we have to work around, angry that I am starting over from scratch with a project/work that I had already invested seven years in, irritated that other people’s decisions sometimes derail my progress, hungry – yet don’t really have a “taste” for anything at all, and full, full, full with tasks to be done – some exciting, some boring, some necessary, some creative.

So I remember the basics, breathe, be present in the Now, do what is next to do and only that. And when done, take the next step and do only that.

Therefore, I will now eat something healthy so my body and brain have fuel for focusing on creative work, then get comfortable and do what is next on the list. I will do all that with gratitude for all the gifts I have received and will receive and reminding myself that I can choose life as a “get to” rather than a “have to”.

We also can decide not to ride the roller coaster; for 20 minutes; for 2 hours; for whatever period of time we choose.
